When Michael Jackson was nine years old, he started being the lead singer of the Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 also consisted of his older brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon. (Jackson: 8) The Jackson 5 had many songs. Michael Jackson's first solo album is called "Off the Wall," and it first released in 1979. The songs on "Off The Wall" include "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" and "Rock With You." His following albums include "Bad," "Thriller," and "Dangerous." Michael had a 2 CD album called "HIStory Past, Present, and Future Book 1," and it first released in 1995. The first CD has his most popular songs from the past. The second CD has his newest including "Scream," which is a duet with with his younger sister Janet Jackson, "You Are Not Alone," which was a 1996 Grammy Awards nominee, and "Childhood," which is the theme to "Free Willy 2." Some of his past songs include "Black And White," "Billie Jean," "Thriller," "Beat It," "Remember The Time," and "Heal The World." Michael Jackson has been famous for so long that he has won many awards, especially Grammys. Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. His Mother's name is Katherine and his father's name is Joseph. Michael's older siblings are Maureen, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, and Marlon. â€Å"A genius of the South, novelist, folklorist, anthropologist†Ã¢â‚¬â€œthose are the words that Alice Walker had inscribed on the tombstone of Zora Neale Hurston. In the essay How It Feels to Be Colored Me, Zora explores her own sense of identity through a series of striking metaphors. After realizing that she is of color, Hurston never really places a significant emphasis on the racial inequalities that exist in America. â€Å"At certain times I have no race, I am me.† Zora Neale Hurston did not have any separate feelings about being an American and colored. â€Å"But I am not tragically colored. There is no great sorrow dammed up in my soul, nor lurking behind my eyes. I do not mind at all.† She is saying that there is no shame in her color. Hurston did not want to conform to a race, to a color, she tried to be herself. She was not afraid to be different, she knew she was special. How It Feels to Be Colored Me, makes it clear that she wants to be recognized as an individual. In paragraph 7 she wrote â€Å"the operation was successful and the patient is doing well, thank you.† Hurston was referring this to slavery and how it did not bother her. That was something in her past and she is moving on from it. Hurston’s audience was guided towards young African American adults who feel the same way about race or color. In the first paragraph she says â€Å". . . except the fact that I am the only Negro in the United States. . .† Because this is one of the first sentences of this essay, it sets the tone for the whole piece. It shows that Hurston’s attitude towards herself is very positive. Many readers could feel the way she feels, wanting to get attention and being noticed. She wanted to be known for someone who was not just another colored person. Many people want to be noticed and not just by their race or skin color. Zora knew that she still stood out from everyone else, but in the end of it all, no one is really â€Å"different†. Zora Neale Hurston gets her purpose across by her use of language and sentence structure. â€Å"I remember the day I became colored.† This is the day that she realized what white people thought of her and anyone else who was colored. Hurston uses many metaphors in this piece to vividly describe the expressions of her self-realization. â€Å"I left Eatonville, the town of the oleanders, as Zora.† Hurston used the word oleanders instead of another flowe r to explain that on the outside they are beautiful, but inside very poisonous.

Throughout the novel, most of the issues that Elizabeth must deal with have to do with her and her family’s social ranking. Since the novel takes place in a society of the landed gentry of the British regency, social class/status is among the utmost importance of a person during this time. Jane Austen uses her satirical and witty writing style to depict certain characters in this novel to represent the various class rankings and the differences they cause between people who are not of the same class. In more detail, Austen portrays the effects of different statuses and income among the lives of women, especially single women. She also uses family income, property, consumer items, and language to differentiate different social rankings. Decreasing the Wait Time for Cafeteria Food at Howard...

In my proposal plan I recommend that the average wait time at each food station in the cafà © be decreased, especially during high rush hour time for example during the lunch and dinner rushes. We can help reduce the time by having servers make up pre portioned plates that way students can grab and go instead of wait in a line for upwards of thirty minutes for cold food. We can also have different food options added that serve different options because as of now the food lines operate on a schedule with the same food options every week. Another recommendation would to be expanded the cafeteria as a whole. As of now Howard University as roughly 10,000 undergraduate students, the cafeteria can barely hold 800 students comfortably. This will†¦show more content†¦I also learned that during peak hours of operation at both cafeterias the same amounts of workers are on duty, to deal with the mass volumes of students. Students find that when they receive their meals the food is of ten cold which is a health concern when food is not properly heated. This can cause other concerns for student health for example food poisoning, which I reluctantly got from eating food from the Howard university cafeteria. Some of the alternatives that I propose are to increase the amount of workers during rush hour times to decrease the wait time. Also increase food options in what is Howard’s food court â€Å"Punch Out, Determining what changes to the current system that will be most effective above will have to be analyzed in a most cost effective way. To asses the current situation at the annex and Blackburn cafeteria, I would like to use a simulation or decision-making model to see if my proposal would be a particle plan. The simulations will what we do not know as opposed to the information we already know. The simulations will allow us to test what effect a change will have on the current system of reaching out in the community around Howard University while also fixing the problem internally. Elisa Confused Like many short stories, John Steinbeck’s â€Å"The Chrysanthemums† deceives most readers by appearing to be a simple short story. â€Å"The Chrysanthemums,† which only occupies about eight pages in textbooks, captures the emotional pain of a woman trying to live in the 1930’s. As critic Stanley Renner wrote, â€Å"’The Chrysanthemums’† shows â€Å"a strong capable woman kept from personal, social, and sexual fulfillment by the prevailing conception of a woman’s role in a world dominated by men† (Renner 306). Elisa Allen, the only female in â€Å"The Chrysanthemums† displays her sexual frustrations throughout the short story by slipping in and out of masculine and feminine characteristics. â€Å"The Chrysanthemums† begins by describing Elisa’s†¦show more content†¦Elisa then speaks about how she would be good at working in the orchards. Henry apparently feels Elisa has spoken too much about masculine subjects because he resorts back to calling the chrysanthemums simply â€Å"flowers† (221). This first scene between husband and wife sets the tone of the entire story. Elisa’s gestures and actions change as different words and topics are mentioned to her. She feel’s unimportant and inferior as a woman and strong enough to be a man. Soon after Henry leaves to finish he work, the tinker is introduced into the story. Here is where Elisa’s sexuality is tested. Elisa’s first reaction to the tinker is similar to that of a man’s, â€Å"for she resists giving him work† (Marcus 56). She show strong qualities as she tells the tinker she as no work for him. The tinker begins to weaken Elisa, though, and eventually breaks her strong stance by using her pride and joy - her chrysanthemums. The tinker captures the beauty of the chrysanthemums in a poetic, feminine nature. He describes them as a â€Å"quick puff of colored smoke,† which appeals to Elisa’s feminine side. Suddenly, Elisa begins to unveil her womanliness. She tears off her hat and shakes out her â€Å"dark pretty hair† (Steinbeck 224). By being interested in Elisa’s feminine flowers, the tinker makes Elisa comfortable with her sexuality. Allowing her feminine nature to appear, Elisa becomes emotional v ulnerable during the â€Å"business† transaction involving her chrysanthemums.
